I love the miracle of birth and being able to support women in their transformational moments. My passion for birth gradually grew throughout my life. It started as a child when I heard the mesmerizing story of my younger brother’s surprise birth under water. Then in my teenage years, the fascination with natural birth continued as I volunteered at a sheep farm, witnessing countless undisturbed and natural animal births. I became committed during midwifery school and especially after giving birth to my own 9lb baby safely at home to not interfere with the natural process of birth and to trust the women giving birth. I continue to learn invaluable wisdom from each birth I attend and feel honored to serve as a midwife.
I graduated from Mercy in Action College of Midwifery with a Bachelors in Midwifery in May 2023, during which I attended over 90 births. I obtained national certification as a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives in August 2023 and received my Idaho license in September 2023. Since then I have attended more home births, and stay current with my credentials and certifications in NRP and CPR.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and backpacking with my husband and son, restoring antique furniture, or learning French.
Typically, your midwife will have a birth assistant, trained in Neonatal Resuscitation and Basic Life Support, who will arrive during the last few hours of labor. You will be able to meet them at one of your prenatal visits, so they will be a familiar face at your birth.
They aid the midwife in her duties to keep your birth space protected and safe, and will continue to help for the first few hours after your baby is here. Trained to be unobtrusive and respectful of your birth wishes, you will hardly notice their presence.
In the unlikely event that two births occur at once, or an unexpected change occurs in your midwife's schedule, Harmony Home Birth partners with Ivy Allen at Roots & Blooms Midwifery as our back-up midwife. You will meet Ivy at one of your prenatal visits and become familiar and comfortable with her.
Ivy is registered with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and licensed in the state of Idaho. Alongside her current certifications in Neonatal Resuscitation through the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Adult CPR/AED, she has specialized training in birth emergency skills through Breech Without Borders and Birth Emergency Skills Training (B.E.S.T.). Beyond midwifery, she spends her free time hiking with her son, tending to her house plants, and reading.
Ivy is a wonderful midwife, and we trust her to provide the best quality care in our stead, if needed.
